Well, for starters, that's the cost just to go watch the cross race during interbike this year. Here's the link if you want all the gory details. If you're out of the loop, let me catch you up to speed. Interbike is a bike industry trade show that happens each year in Las Vegas. Beside checking out all of the new crap for the next season, placing orders and meeting with folks you usually only talk with on the phone during the year. There are lots of events that companies plan for industry folk during the evenings, think movie premiers, parties, roller races, etc. CrossVegas started a couple of years ago and was super fun! But when things get to be really fun, the oppressors of fun (the serious guys) have to come in and crap all over the party.
Last year's CrossVegas was alright, but not as much as the first year. No outside beverages allowed, the only thing that made it a good time was that a couple of our crew were racing in the industry cup. Apparently, too many people had a good time last year too, so the Serious Ones are at it again, imposing an $8 spectating fee on an event (CX) that is traditionally cost free to watch and enjoy. Event co-promoter Brook Watts says: “It’s the best bargain in Vegas,” explains Watts, “what else can you do in Las Vegas for eight bucks?”
To which our friend Stevil from Swobo replied, "Um, I'll bet I could scare up a BJ behind the Imperial palace for $8. Might not be from a woman, or even a human for that matter, but better than that bike race will be. Or I can sit on the curb with friends and drink beer from a can. That's what I can do for $8. Maybe we should (The Royale "we") start something in protest. How about we show up dressed like Jesus and his disciples carrying a giant cross. Then we all hop the fence at the same time as Cycling News and Velo News take photos. Then, when confronted, "Are you really going to throw out a bunch of Christians?" Or "Across Vegas" as in, "we'll be across town having fun some where's else while all you gut up close to 'the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex’s famed thick magic carpet' "
