Hustle and Flow Race Report

Saturday is pretty much a big blur, so we'll touch on what we remember and some highlights of the day. Doug stayed at Matt's house to speed up the process of making it to Mike's on time. We arrived around 5AM. Everyone rolled in shortly around that time and we shook Dave awake. Loaded the truck and trailer. Got everyone packed in, pet the dog, admired Mike's hard work customizing the trailer the night before, and saddled up.

Made a quick stop at Stop and Shop to score some water and a pad-lock for the trailer. High-tailed it to NYC. We watched videos on someone's iPhone, laughed at Pete and his cucumber, and generally had a good time. Got to the park around 8am-ish. Checked out the dirt jumps and ran down the downhill section to meet Jaime from NYMTB and get set up.

About 30min of being there, unloading, etc, Pete decided to hit the jump park, but the park hit back. See the description in the previous entry. Here's a photo:

-has a Ghostship shirt ever looked more badass? I think not.

-at least he's got a hot nurse taking care of him....

Pete update #2-still in high spirits. He DOES NOT have a broken neck as someone in his family led us to believe. He's got some bleeding on the brain, but should be home tomorrow or Wednesday. Fucking trooper indeed.

With Pete down, our friend Erik stepped up to rip the pump-track and Dave took over the Super-D section. We did a seeding run first, which figured out where the teams would start. (From Matt's perspective:) "I remember watching Mike come in hot on the heels of the downhiller prior to him, I got so amped I wound up pre-releasing out of one of my pedals. In an effort to make up the lost seconds (which felt like and eternity), I went out WAAAAAY too hard. Almost ate it around the first corner, and almost passed out at the top. Vision blurred, hearing was fuzzy, my whole body felt like it was going to collapse."

Back at the tent we found out we were in first with the fastest time. The seeding run put the team to start last on the finals. Everyone put in an amazing effort the second time round, conserving energy where they had spent too much before, and generally killing it. The team came out on top, putting about 30 sec on the second place team.

After the race, Doug took off to Dirty Jersey to pick up a new truck, and the rest of the crew packed up, and set off in search of The Knitting Factory in Tribeca. Navigating a full-size Chevy Suburban with an 8 foot trailer through downtown NYC, on a Saturday evening is no easy feat, but Mike made it look like it was his job! Some highlights include some g'd-out guy stopping in front of the truck as it was moving, jumping out of the way, coming up to the passenger window and asking "Yo! You gonna stop?!" To which Matt and Mike replied (in unison) "No!", finding parking for both the Suburban AND trailer, getting lost, getting found, and finding where we needed to be. Lots of pretty girls, tourists, and shopping....amidst and truck full of smelly bike geeks...a rad way to spend an evening for sure.

We found the Knitting Factory, parked our bikes @ Gotham Bikes (free bike valet service) watched a great video and had our team presented to a room full of fellow riders. Doug met us there to partake in the fun. A good time was had by all. Thanks to Jamie and the whole NYCMTB crew for putting on an amazing race, the other teams that we had the honor of sharing a race with, and the riders who make up the Ghostship collective.

You can check out Matt's photos here.
Couple of videos coming soon.

Ghostship Team Kills It!

A quick note...this past Saturday (4/26), the Ghostship team showed up and absolutely killed it at the first ever Highbridge Hustle and Flow comp! Our team of five rode their asses off and had a great time, coming out on top with the fastest times of the day (bettering their final time by shaving 2 seconds off their qualifying time (which didn't include the pump track section)! A full race report to come soon.

The win was a bittersweet one, as one of the team suffered serious injuries in the dirt jump park in the early am. We think (because no one saw it) Pete nose cased a jump, and face-planted the landing. He was knocked out for several minutes and was very disoriented upon coming to. He was taken to the ER and is still in the ICU where they found he has bleeding on his brain after CAT/MRI scans and testing. He's expected to make a full recovery, is in good spirits and will be pedaling around before you know it. Send some fast healing mojo his way. Ghostship killed it for Pete!

Fine Young Gentlemen....

Yeah-ah. Maybe you noticed our banner was bit different. Maybe not. But those fine-young gentlemen are part of the Ghostship Terror Squad. They'll be terrorizing at the Hustle and Flow competition a week from this Saturday (April 26th). Guaranteed to be having the most fun in tha gritty NYC.

Speaking of Saturday, Team-terrorizer Doug is packing to head down to punish his rivals at the Cohutta 100 race in TN. Best of luck, and may a some blistering, brutal metal carry you past your enemies!

Come on down to NYC to hang with us and scream at us to go faster. We love that kind of ish! We'll have some shirts available for purchase as well. Hope you're all getting out to ride at some point. The weather here in the East Coast has finally thawed a bit. Go enjoy a ride!

New Outlet

We have a group on Facebook now too. Go add us. So all you anti-myspacers can share in the Ghostship evil too. It's Ford vs. Chevy, Honda vs. Toyota, Mac vs. PC...although we'd tell you it's Mac all the way and Mike would probably cast his vote for Chevy...relax, we're just the messengers. Spreading the evil. Oh yeah...did you hear? We've got a killer team put together for this:

Races, Races!

New Haven's annual April Fool's Day alleycat (dubbed April Cruel's Day) went off without a hitch this past Tuesday evening. Every year we look forward to this race because of all the crazy ish that goes down. This year's race was no exception, with all racers required to remove their front wheels at the start, and no manifests were handed out til you got to the first check point! Good times. EC Scorchers took home honors in this race with 3 members in the top 3.
1st - Raf
2nd - Dan
3rd - Matt (Ghostship)
Gship's own Matt took home 3rd place after a wrong turn opened up second place to the Scorcher's very own Nuge. A great way to start the season!

We're happy to help sponsor what promises to be a rad race series in the coming weeks. Check out the flyer and visit their website. Click the flyer for the full-size verson.
